Grok Imagine Video 1.5 costs $0.08 per second at 480p, $0.14 at 720p and $0.25 at 1080p on fal.ai, in prices we checked on October 29, 2026. A 30 second video at 720p comes to $4.20 at the cheapest provider in our list. xAI documents clips of 1 to 15 seconds, so 30 seconds means two generations.
We compare documented limits and list prices only. We have not judged output quality, and this article does not rank models by how good they look.
What is Grok Imagine Video 1.5?
Grok Imagine is xAI's image and video generator. Video 1.5 is the current video model in its API, named grok-imagine-video-1.5. According to xAI's announcement of 16 June 2026, it became generally available in the API that day as an image to video model. According to xAI's post of 31 July 2026, it gained image and voice references, video from a text prompt alone, and native 1080p.
xAI also documents a smaller model, grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite, and the older grok-imagine-video. This article covers the full 1.5 model, because that is the one our price list tracks.
How do you get Grok Imagine?
There are two routes, both described by xAI. The first is the apps. xAI says text to video and native 1080p are generally available on grok.com/imagine and in the iOS and Android apps. The same post says image and voice references began on 31 July 2026 in the US for SuperGrok Heavy and SuperGrok Plus subscribers, rolling out to all tiers over the following days.
The second is the xAI API, where you pay per second of video with an API key and no subscription. Third party platforms such as fal.ai, Sume and wiro.ai resell the same model, and those are the prices in the next sections.
We did not find an x.ai page that states which paid plan includes how many Imagine videos, and plan limits have changed before, so we give no plan prices or caps here. Check the plan page in the Grok app. xAI's own API pricing page lists grok-imagine-video-1.5 at the same per second rates by resolution as fal.ai in the table below (read October 31, 2026).
How long, how sharp, and does it have sound?
| grok-imagine-video-1.5 | |
|---|---|
| Length per generation | 1 to 15 seconds |
| Resolution | 480p, 720p, 1080p (native 1080p for text to video and image to video) |
| Reference to video ceiling | 720p, 15 seconds, up to 14 images |
| Aspect ratios | 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 21:9, 5:2 |
| Audio | On by default, with lip synced speech. The API has a setting for silent video |
| Text to video | Generates a first frame from the prompt, then animates it |
Those rows come from xAI's video overview and video generation guide. The fal.ai listing describes the endpoint as generating videos from prompts with audio, and its sample output is 24 frames per second. Our price list holds one rate per resolution at fal.ai, Sume and wiro.ai, with no separate audio price.
How much does Grok Imagine cost per second?
| Resolution | fal.ai, per second | Sume, per second | wiro.ai, 15 second clip | 30 seconds, cheapest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 480p | $0.08 | $0.08 | $1.21 | $2.40 (fal.ai) |
| 720p | $0.14 | $0.14 | $2.11 | $4.20 (fal.ai) |
| 1080p | $0.25 | - | - | $7.50 (fal.ai) |
fal.ai charges per second of output and says the cost scales linearly with duration. Going from 480p to 1080p multiplies the rate by 3.1. Sume lists the same $0.14 at 720p.
wiro.ai prices whole clips instead. Its 5 second clip at 480p is $0.41, which is 5 seconds at the fal.ai rate plus a fixed $0.01 per clip. A 15 second clip is $2.11 at 720p, and wiro.ai offers it for image to video only, so you must supply a starting image.

What does a 30 second Grok Imagine video cost?
Because a single generation stops at 15 seconds, a 30 second video is two 15 second clips. At 720p that is $4.20 at fal.ai, or $4.22 at wiro.ai as two image to video clips. At 480p it is $2.40 and at 1080p $7.50, both at the cheapest provider in the table. These prices cover a clip that is used as generated. Retries, which are common while you work out a prompt, add to the total.
Is Grok Imagine cheaper than similar AI video models?
| Model | Cheapest provider | Audio | Per second | 30 seconds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seedance 2.0 Mini | wiro.ai | not stated | $0.075 | $2.26 |
| LTX 2.5 Fast | fal.ai | audio on | $0.09 | $2.70 |
| Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 | fal.ai | audio on | $0.10 | $3.00 |
| Wan 3.0 | fal.ai | not stated | $0.10 | $3.00 |
| Veo 3.1 Fast | Google Vertex AI | audio on | $0.10 | $3.00 |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5 (fal.ai) | fal.ai | audio on (xAI) | $0.14 | $4.20 |
At 720p the cheapest model in that band is Seedance 2.0 Mini at $0.075 per second from wiro.ai, which is $2.26 for 30 seconds against $4.20 for Grok Imagine. 14 of the 23 models in the band are cheaper per second than Grok Imagine at fal.ai, and the dearest in the band, Seedance 2.5, is $0.231 per second.
A cheaper rate does not always mean a cheaper video. If a model needs three clips for 30 seconds and Grok Imagine needs two, the gap narrows, and a model that charges extra for audio can cost more than its headline rate. Read the notes on each row of the pricing tool before you decide.
Price per second is only part of it. Models differ in clip length, in whether audio is priced in, and in whether a rate is for text to video or image to video. Our comparison pages cover some of these in detail: see Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.0 and the cost of a 30 second AI Reel.
How to keep the bill down
- Draft at 480p. It is $0.08 per second, against $0.25 at 1080p. xAI's own default resolution is 480p.
- Test with short clips. The duration setting starts at 1 second, so check the motion before you ask for 15.
- Compare hosts. The same model is priced differently by different resellers. The pricing tool lists them side by side, and the budget planner turns a rate into a monthly cost.
- Pick the resolution for the screen. A vertical Reel does not need 1080p to be useful. See the social video specs for sizes.
Raytake is a Mac app that makes short videos through a chat with an AI assistant. It shows each model's price before it runs, and it asks you to approve still frames before paying for video, so a test costs a still image and not a full clip.
